The Veteran Effect LLC · Michigan
Every veteran deserves a door that locks and a plan that works.
We build transitional housing and financial literacy pathways for at-risk veterans — turning the discipline of service into lasting stability.
Our Mission
Stability isn't a handout. It's a system.
Too many veterans leave service with the discipline to lead a unit but no roadmap for a lease, a budget, or a credit score. The Veteran Effect exists to close that gap — pairing safe, dignified housing with hands-on financial literacy, so that "transitional" actually leads somewhere.
We're building this in Michigan first, starting with shared housing and growing toward a full manufactured home community model designed specifically around veterans' needs.
How It Works
The pathway home
Every veteran we serve moves through three real stages — not a metaphor, our actual program design. Each stage has its own goals, support, and exit criteria.
Stage 01
Crisis Stabilization
Emergency intake, safe shared housing, and an initial needs assessment within days, not months.
Stage 02
Transitional Housing
Longer-term housing at Lafayette Place and partner sites, paired with budgeting, credit repair, and job support.
Stage 03
Financial Independence
A personal savings plan, established credit, and a path to independent housing — on their own terms.
Founder & CEO
"I spent almost two decades protecting systems for the Department of Defense. Now I'm building one that protects the people who served."Charrisa "Risa" ByersFounder & CEO, The Veteran Effect LLC

Where We Focus
Three pieces, one system
Housing without money management just delays the next crisis. We build both at once.
Transitional Housing
Safe, well-managed shared housing — starting with Lafayette Place Community — as a bridge to permanent stability.
Financial Literacy
Practical coursework in budgeting, credit building, and long-term planning, taught by people who've lived the transition.
Manufactured Home Communities
A long-term development strategy to build affordable, veteran-focused housing communities across Michigan.
